The National Stud looks to recruit a new Managing Director
16th December 2016
The National Stud, The Jockey Club’s breeding and education arm, is looking to recruit a new Managing Director.
The National Stud’s reputation has grown in recent years for providing the Thoroughbred breeding industry with a range of services of the highest quality at affordable prices, including stallion services, season and permanent boarding, foaling, sales preparation and spelling facilities. As part of The Jockey Club since 2008, The National Stud continues to generate a profit – which is reinvested – and has done so each year since its acquisition.
Furthermore, The Stud is a world-class education provider and through its public tours aims to be an accessible shop window in helping to increase people’s interest and knowledge about the breeding and racing industries.
This leadership role is available following the news that current Managing Director Brian O’Rourke will stand down in March 2017 after more than eight successful years in post to run Copgrove Hall Stud in Yorkshire.
Ben Sangster, Chairman of The National Stud, said:
“This is an excellent opportunity for a high-calibre stud manager with experience in Britain or overseas. Brian and the team have done a fantastic job over the last few years and the new Managing Director will be coming in with solid foundations on which to build. I have greatly enjoyed working with Brian, who has been first-class in every sense. I should also like to take this opportunity to express our continuing gratitude to our customers for all their support and we look forward to seeing them in the new breeding season.”
Brian O’Rourke said:
“I am very proud to have served as Managing Director of The National Stud and of the achievements we have delivered over the past eight years. I wish the team all the best for the future and I am excited about my next venture.”
Stallions standing at The National Stud for the 2017 breeding season are Gregorian, Marcel and Toronado. More than 18,000 people enjoy public tours of The National Stud each year.
