Thornton eyeing early return

Robert Thornton, sidelined since sustaining a back injury in a crashing fall from Cracboumwiz at Leicester a fortnight ago, could return to the saddle at Ludlow on Wednesday.

The jockey enjoyed a busy morning schooling for his boss Alan King on Monday and, subject to passing a fitness test with the racecourse doctor, he could be in action at the Shropshire track where King has a number of entries.

King said: "Choc will be back as soon as he is passed by the doctor and it could well be on Wednesday. He schooled a stack for me and he's in great form. It will be great to have him back."
