Vitznau was given a quote of 20-1 by the sponsors for the William Hill Lincoln after he guaranteed himself a run in the Doncaster handicap with victory at Wolverhampton.
The Richard Hannon-trained six-year picked up a 5lb penalty for the March 27 event after his success in the williamhill.com Lincoln Trial.
Held up in mid-division by Richard Hughes in a steadily run race, Vitznau (9-1) began to make headway over two furlongs out and he proved game in the finish as he held off favourite Fanunalter by three-quarters of a length.
