The National Stud

The National Stud

The Jockey Club's Thoroughbred breeding and education arm in Suffolk. It was transferred from Government in 2008.

From its 500-acre site on the outskirts of Newmarket, The National Stud aims to facilitate three main objectives for the good of the Thoroughbred Breeding Industry:

  • Offering a comprehensive range of services of the highest quality to the Thoroughbred breeding industry at affordable prices. These include stallion services, seasonal and permanent boarding, foaling, sales preparation and spelling facilities.
  • The Stud has accommodation for eight stallions and up to 200 mares in nine separate yards.
  • Stallions currently standing at The National Stud are: Bahamian Bounty, Cockney Rebel, Pastoral Pursuits and Dick Turpin, the first stallion purchased under The Jockey Club’s ownership.
  • Providing young people entering the Thoroughbred breeding industry with top class training opportunities using internationally-renowned education facilities. The Stud also provides a selection of shorter courses for individuals wishing to increase their skills base.
  • Hosting public tours to operate as an accessible ‘shop window’ to help to raise interest and knowledge of the Thoroughbred breeding industry.
