Connolly's Red Mills to sponsor a new Bumper Challenge

4th September 2012

Jockey Club Racecourses (JCR), the largest racecourse Group in the UK*, today announced a new partnership with Connolly’s Red Mills, one of Ireland’s oldest and most established animal feed companies. The new deal will support a collection of bumper races run exclusively at The Jockey Club’s tracks and award the champion trainer at the Challenge finale with the equivalent of £2,000 in Connolly’s Red Mills products.

The ’Connolly’s Red Mills Bumper Challenge’ will feature a total of 13 National Hunt flat races held across seven of The Jockey Club’s racecourses. In addition to the award for the champion trainer, Connolly’s Red Mills will supplement the prize money on offer for the final race of the Challenge at Aintree on Friday 17th May 2013.

These particular races have been brought together for the first time under the partnership to focus on the foundation levels of British racing. The new initiative starts on Saturday 29th September at Market Rasen and all the bumper races will be identified as the 'Connolly’s Red Mills Bumper Challenge' as the race title. The final race is not restricted to horses that have competed in any of the Challenge’s previous races.

Throughout the bumper Challenge, points will be awarded to trainers of the winning horses as well as horses placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th, regardless of field size.  Seven points will be allocated to the trainer of the winner, five for 2nd place, three to 3rd and one for 4th. The trainer who has accumulated the most points after the final race will win the champion trainers prize.

Paul Fisher, Group Managing Director, Jockey Club Racecourses, said:

“Connolly’s Red Mills has supported a number of our racecourses over the years, so I am delighted they have decided to extend their sponsorship across 13 bumper races in this new Bumper Challenge.

“This partnership provides another boost to the grassroots of our sport and I’m confident the new initiative will prove a success with owners and trainers.”

Joe Connolly, Managing Director, Connolly’s Red Mills, said:

"We are very excited about coming on-board as sponsors of the 2012/13 Bumper Challenge. At all times we endeavour to support the people who support us and this partnership demonstrates our on-going commitment to the industry.

“We wish all the participating trainers the very best of luck in the forthcoming Bumper Challenge and we are confident some stars of the future will feature along the way."
