Jockey Club racecourses rated as top courses in England & Wales

1st May 2013

Jockey Club Racecourses (JCR), the largest racecourse group in the UK* has claimed six places in the top ten racecourses in England and Wales for visitor attraction and customer experience, as judged by VisitEngland, the country’s national tourist board.

The VisitEngland ‘Quality Assured Racecourse Scheme’ run in conduction with the Racecourse Association has seen racecourses across England and Wales independently assessed and marked on all aspects of the customer experience.

This included a full assessment of the raceday facilities on offer, as well as pre-visit checks on websites and phone contact. Racecourses are the first sporting attractions in the country to be assessed and promoted in this way.

In 2012, 54 racecourses in England and Wales were assessed with Cheltenham, Epsom Downs, Kempton Park, Newmarket July Course, Sandown Park and Wincanton being named in the top ten.

Now in its fourth year, the scheme offers racecourses one-on-one debriefs and a full written report on areas that work well and where improvements could be made, with a number of racecourses seeing continuous improvement in their scores over the course of the scheme.

Paul Fisher, Group Managing Director of Jockey Club Racecourses, commented:

"Several million people every year enjoy a day at the races, whether you are lifelong fan of the sport or just love a great day out. The staff at our courses strive to make every customer's experience a good one and I am delighted The Jockey Club's racecourses have been recognised in the Quality Assured Racecourse Scheme.
