Phil White appointed General Manager at Sandown Park Racecourse

21st April 2015

Jockey Club Racecourses today announced the appointment of Phil White as General Manager of its Sandown Park Racecourse from the start of May 2015.

For the last three years, Phil White has been General Manager of sister-course, Kempton Park, within Jockey Club Racecourses' London Region and a member of the regional senior management team. A recruitment process will now begin to appoint his successor at the busy Sunbury-on-Thames venue.

Phil White’s appointment at Sandown Park is a new role on account of the volume of racing and strategic projects in Jockey Club Racecourses' London Region. He will continue to report to Jockey Club Racecourses London Regional Director, Rupert Trevelyan who is responsible for the running of Epsom Downs, Kempton Park and Sandown Park racecourses.

This will be Phil White’s second stint at Sandown Park after working at the Esher racecourse previously as a Sales Manager earlier in his career. He joined Jockey Club Racecourses 13 years ago in 2002 as an Events Manager at Kempton Park and has been promoted through a range of roles within the group’s three London courses, including successful periods as Sales Director of Epsom Downs and Kempton Park before becoming a racecourse manager.

Sandown Park‎ is scheduled to stage 25 Flat and Jump fixtures in 2015, including the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes, Grade 1 888sport Tingle Creek Chase and this weekend's Grade 1 bet365 Celebration Chase, as well as operating as a busy conference and events venue.

Phil White said:

“I’m absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to join Sandown Park Racecourse. There’s clearly a great team in place who I’m very much looking forward to working with in staging racedays of fantastic quality across both codes of our sport and a wide range of events throughout the year using the superb facilities. We know that many people have Sandown amongst their list of favourite racecourses, but our job is to get to the top of that list wherever possible.

“I’ll be very sorry to leave Kempton Park after three really enjoyable years. I’ll miss our amazing team of hardworking and dedicated people, although as we’re all part of London and The Jockey Club I’ll get to see as many of them as
possible in the future.”

Rupert Trevelyan said:

“Phil has done a tremendous job at Kempton Park and I look forward to working with him in this new role. He is a popular, personable and talented racecourse manager and member of the London senior management team. We
are an extremely busy region and this senior resource is important at a time when we are looking to take Sandown Park to the next level alongside other strategic projects in our region.”

Mike Street OBE, Chairman of Sandown Park Racecoursesaid:

“I am looking forward to Phil joining Sandown Park as General Manager. I had the pleasure of being Phil’s chairman at Kempton Park previously and I know he will do a tremendous job as we seek to promote Sandown Park as one of the UK’s leading racecourses across both codes of our sport, working with our Regional Director Rupert Trevelyan and the Sandown Park team.”
