Jockey Club Racecourses (JCR), the UK’s largest racecourse group, today announced the appointment of Simon Durrant as General Manager of Epsom Downs Racecourse.

In his new role, he will report to Rupert Trevelyan, JCR’s London Regional Director, whose brief includes responsibility for running Epsom Downs, as well as Sandown Park and Kempton Park.

Durrant has extensive experience in racing and racecourse management, having previously worked for JCR for eleven years, across all three courses in the group’s London region.

He was Head of Operations at Epsom Downs from 2008 to 2010, Head of Operations at Sandown Park from 2005 to 2008 and Operations Manager at Kempton Park from 2002 to 2005, having joined in 1999 as Events Manager. As General Manager at Epsom Downs, Durrant will be part of the senior team running 12 race meetings a year, including the world renowned Investec Derby, which in 2012 once again was the most attended day of sport in the UK with a crowd of more than 130,000. He will also be responsible for continued growth across all areas of the business, including the racecourse’s significant conference and events operation. A start date will be confirmed in the near future.

Rupert Trevelyan, London Regional Director for Jockey Club Racecourses, said:
“We are very pleased to welcome Simon back to Epsom Downs. He was an invaluable member of the senior team when previously employed by JCR and has an in-depth knowledge of the racing industry and how business thrives at a racecourse.”

Simon Durrant said:
“I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to return to Epsom Downs to take on this exciting and challenging new role.”
