Tim Darby appointed Exeter General Manager
12th June 2012
Jockey Club Racecourses, the largest racecourse group in the UK, today announced the appointment of Tim Darby, former Chief Executive of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), as General Manager of its Exeter Racecourse.
Darby moves within The Jockey Club’s racecourse arm from Epsom Downs, where he helped to deliver the 2012 Investec Derby after rejoining the famous Surrey venue as Marketing Manager in October last year. A resident of Ashburton in Devon for the last eight years, he takes over on 25th June from Alice Everitt, who has run Exeter Racecourse since February 2011 and worked at the course for more than five years.
For more than six years previously, Darby ran the PDC, which is the world’s leading promoter of professional darts. Prior to that he was Marketing Manager for The Jockey Club’s three racecourses near London; Epsom Downs, Kempton Park and Sandown Park; which then were grouped under the banner of United Racecourses. Darby’s strong racing credentials also include working as Marketing Manager for the British Horseracing Board, which was British racing’s governing body (now the British Horseracing Authority).
Tim Darby said:
“I’m delighted to have been appointed as General Manager at Exeter Racecourse. Alice and her team have done a fantastic job and I look forward to working with my new colleagues to continue this and to further develop the racecourse. Exeter is a wonderful venue that has a very bright future and I look forward to help shape that, both on the racing and the non-racing side.”
Paul Fisher, Group Managing Director of Jockey Club Racecourses, said:
“I’m very pleased Tim will run Exeter Racecourse for us. He has excellent senior experience working both inside and outside racing, and is well placed to take up his first racecourse management role. I’ve known Tim for more than 12 years and have every confidence he and the Exeter team will go from strength-to-strength together.
“I’d also like to thank Alice Everitt for the superb job she has done as General Manager at Exeter and in her previous roles within Jockey Club Racecourses. She sees her future in a marketing-focused role and our door is always open should the right opportunity arise.”
Jeremy Colson, Chairman of Exeter Racecourse, said: “Alice Everitt has been a mainstay of the Exeter team for many years and we will miss her commitment and enthusiasm. We wish her well in her new ventures. We are fortunate to have Tim Darby to replace her as General Manager and I know that Tim will carry on the good work and continue to take Exeter forward.” Alice Everitt said: “I’ve enjoyed working for The Jockey Club and with the team at Exeter Racecourse more than I can say. It had always been my ambition to manage a racecourse, but I believe I’ll be happiest in a more marketing-focused role in the future. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given throughout my time at The Jockey Club and I’ll be sad to leave my colleagues, who have been tremendously supportive.”
