VisitEngland hails The Jockey Club's racecourses

2nd July 2014

Jockey Club Racecourses (JCR), the leading racecourse group in the UK has claimed four places in the top ten racecourses in England and Wales for visitor attraction and customer experience, as judged by VisitEngland, the country’s national tourist board.

The VisitEngland ‘Quality Assured Racecourse Scheme’ run in conduction with the Racecourse Association has seen racecourses across England and Wales independently assessed and marked on all aspects of the customer experience including Owners’ and Trainers' facilities for the first time.

This included a full assessment of the raceday facilities on offer, as well as pre-visit checks on websites and phone contact. Racecourses are the first sporting attractions in the country to be assessed and promoted in this way.

In 2013, 53 racecourses in England and Wales were assessed with Epsom Downs, Exeter, Newmarket and Wincanton being named in the top ten. 2013 saw VisitEngland including Owners’ and Trainers facilities in their assessments for the first time, which is reflected in each racecourses' overall score.

Now in its fifth year, the scheme offers racecourses one-on-one debriefs and a full written report on areas that work well and where improvements could be made, with a number of racecourses seeing continuous improvement in their scores over the course of the scheme.

Paul Fisher, Group Managing Director of Jockey Club Racecourses, commented:

"Racing is Britain's second biggest spectator sport and we welcomed 1.74 million people last year to enjoy a day at one of our courses. I am delighted The Jockey Club's racecourses have been recognised in the Quality Assured Racecourse Scheme as our staff strive to make every customer's experience a great one."
