Aintree Racecourse is located on the A59, just one mile from the M57 and M58, which link the M62 and M6. Follow the A59 to Liverpool and the yellow/tourism signs as you approach the racecourse for routes to the car parks.

A series of road closures are implemented in and around Aintree to facilitate the transport management plan for the Randox Grand National Festival.

 

Exact details of each closure are shown on the map. The closures will be implemented and maintained by Tracsis using suitably qualified operatives where necessary.

 

Aintree Racecourse will make the applications for closures directly to Liverpool City Council, Sefton Borough Council and/or local councils as appropriate.

Merseyrail will run a special timetable for The Randox Grand National 2025 Festival, with a seven-and-a-half-minute frequency of service running between Liverpool City Centre and Aintree station before the start and after the finish of the races on each day of the festival.

 

Trains on Merseyrail’s Northern line will run to a slightly amended timetable to provide the best possible service to those attending the iconic event. Customers should check the journey planner on Merseyrail’s website or app for up-to-date departure times before travelling.

 

On all three days, a seven-and-a-half-minute service will run between Aintree and Liverpool Central/Moorfields stations at the following times:

  • Liverpool city centre to Aintree, from approximately 11:00 – 13:00 (before the races)
  • Aintree to Liverpool city centre, from approximately 16:30 – 20:30 (after the races)

Trains to and from Aintree will be as follows: 

 

A seven-and-a-half-minute service will run between Aintree and Liverpool Central/Moorfields stations at the following times: 

  • Liverpool City Centre to Aintree, from approximately 11:00 – 13:00 (before the races) 
  • Aintree to Liverpool City Centre, from approximately 16:30 – 20:30 (after the races)

Trains will run to a slightly amended 15-minute timetable. Stations between Liverpool City Centre and Ormskirk will have a 15-minute service. However, to enable extra trains to operate, Aughton Park station and Town Green station will be served by a 30-minute service.

Services between 11:00 and 14:00 and between 17:00 and 21:00 will start and terminate at Sandhills. Customers for Moorfields or Liverpool Central, or those making the return journey to Rice Lane, Fazakerley, Kirkby, or Headbolt Lane will have to change at Sandhills during these times.

All services will run to the normal timetable. Customers travelling to the festival from any Wirral line stations are advised to change at Moorfields for an Aintree-bound train.

Aintree can be reached by bus on services: 300, 310 and 345 both to and from Liverpool.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is the nearest airport to the racecourse and is a 20-minute drive by road.


Alternatively, take a bus to Liverpool South Parkway Merseyrail station where you can catch a train to Aintree [change at Liverpool Central or Moorfields onto the Ormskirk train].


The journey takes approximately 1 hour. Manchester Airport is approximately a 45-minute drive by road.
