Nick Wright is today announced as the new Chairman of Huntingdon Racecourse, taking up the position ahead of the first fixture of the new season next month (Tuesday 10th October). Nick succeeds Julian Taylor, who has been Chairman since 2019.
A chartered surveyor and farmer who is based just outside Newmarket, Nick is no stranger to Huntingdon having already served on the racecourse committee for four years.
A lifelong racing fan who rode in point to points, the father of three grown-up children began his racing life some 50 years ago at Pony Club Camp – which was situated at Huntingdon Racecourse! He also served as a racecourse committee member at Newmarket for six years and currently trains point-to-pointers.
Nick Wright said: “It is a tremendous honour to be appointed Chairman of Huntingdon Racecourse, a course I have enjoyed a very close connection with for many years.
“With an exciting new season to look forward to, it feels like a great time to be taking over.
“I look forward to working alongside the racecourse executive and building on Julian’s excellent work.”
James Wilcox, General Manager at Huntingdon Racecourse, added: “To have a Chairman with the longstanding and close relationship to the racecourse that Nick has is sure to prove very beneficial in the months and years ahead.
“Preparations are well underway for our new season and we are delighted to be able to announce Nick as our new Chairman today.
“I would like to pay tribute to our outgoing Chairman Julian Taylor who successfully steered the racecourse through the very challenging times of COVID.”
