The Betfred Derby Festival
THAT’S A WRAP!
We’re so glad you could join us for this year’s Betfred Derby Festival. Derby Day did not disappoint.
Greatness was achieved out on the track as Lambourn etched his name into the rich history of the Betfred Derby.
Away from the track, the excitement didn’t stop. Whether you took in the stunning views from our Queen Elizabeth II stand, or were out with JLS’s very own JB Gill in our Family Festival Enclosure - it really was a day to remember.
Take a look below at the highlights!
LAMBOURN STORMS TO VICTORY
Lambourn (13-2) made all to win the 2025 Betfred Derby in commanding fashion, winning by nearly four lengths over 50-1 chance, Lazy Griff.
His victory completed a second clean sweep of the three Group Ones at the Betfred Derby Festival for master trainer Aidan O'Brien, and gave jockey Wayne Lordan a first Betfred Derby winner.
Wayne Lordan said: “When you are growing up the Epsom Derby is always the one. When you get a ride in it you are happy, when you get on one that you think has a chance you are pleased, but when they come and win it it’s special.”
TEENAGE KICKS
Teenage jockey Warren Fentiman secured a first success a Epsom Downs when scoring by a length on Stormy Impact (7-1) in the £75,000 Betfred 3YO “Dash” over 5f.
The 17-year-old said: “This is my first winner here. I had a great introduction - I rode Extinct for Stuart Williams here over five furlongs and came second, and I’ve been lucky enough to win this, which is brilliant. It’s amazing to ride a winner on Derby Day.”
A DERBY-WINNING DYNASTY - LAMBOURN, AUSTRALIA & GALILEO
Aidan O’Brien’s record-breaking dominance in the Betfred Derby reached new heights in 2025 following Lambourn's victory in the latest renewal.
He is a colt bred from a remarkable lineage that now spans three generations of Betfred Derby greatness with his Sire Australia (2014), and Grandsire Galileo (2001) both former winners.
