The Epsom Derby 2017 was held on 3rd June.

The winner was Wings of Eagles, with odds of 40/1, while the favourite – Cracksman – came in third.

This was the biggest Derby upset in 43 years!

Interesting Facts

Interesting facts about the Derby Festival at Epsom:

  • The fastest Derby race was recorded in 2010 by Workforce who holds the course record at 2 minutes 31.33 seconds.
  • The widest winning margin was 10 lengths by Shergar in 1981.
  • Suffragette Emily Davison was killed when struck down by the Kings horse Amner in the 1913 Derby. There is a plaque in her memory at Tattenham corner.
  • Alex Greaves was the first female Jockey to ride in the Derby race in 1996, there has been two others since – Hayley Turner and Ana O’Brien.
