The Racing
The Betfred Derby remains one of the crown jewels of the British racing calendar, making up the middle leg of the prestigious Betfred Triple Crown. In 2026, the total prize money for Betfred Derby will be rising to a total value of £2,000,000 - an increase of £500,000. This increase makes the Betfred Derby the joint richest race in the UK.
In addition to the increased overall value, prize money will also now be paid down to 10th place, ensuring broader recognition for connections who compete in the world’s greatest flat race. The winning horse will take home £1,000,000.
Other key changes for 2026
The Group 1 Coolmore Coronation Cup will move to now be run on Derby Day. It's total prize money will raise significantly to £1,000,000. We must say a huge thank you to Coolmore – and in particular Derrick Smith, Michael Tabor and John Magnier – for their huge support of the Betfred Derby Festival. Their commitment plays a vital role in elevating the quality and global appeal of the Coolmore Coronation Cup.
We are also delighted to unveil a brand-new addition to the race programme; the Group 3 Tattenham Corner Stakes, run over 7-furlongs the race will be run on Friday.
Across both days, there will be an investment of £1,375,000 into prize money, taking total prize money to nearly £5,000,000, and making Betfred Derby Day the second richest raceday in the UK, worth £3,620,000. Ensuring that the Betfred Derby Festival continues to attract the biggest names in our sport.
