What makes The Derby so special?
There’s an old phrase in sport – an old comfort: Maybe next time…
When it’s not quite your day, another day will come, when the moment passes you by, there will be other moments, when you miss, there will be another chance.
That doesn’t apply to The Derby. Horses must be three years old to enter and three years old only – every Derby, you’re witnessing one horse’s chance for immortality.
The Classic race is run over a mile and a half. The race requires the three-year-olds to mix speed, stamina and good balance, while the first half mile, horse and jockey will climb as high as Nelson’s Column.
This is the original Derby… The Derby - one chance to witness history.
