Despite having to cancel this year’s Ladies Day due to the ongoing public health situation, organisers are determined not to let the UK-wide ‘lockdown’ stop one of Liverpool’s biggest social events of the calendar.

Instead, The Jockey Club and The Guide Liverpool are encouraging ‘virtual racegoers’ all over the country to dress up in their best raceday outfits to enter the UK’s biggest ever Style Award, on what is being billed as ‘A Grand Day In’.

Until now, only racegoers with tickets for the showpiece Aintree event have been able to enter the competition. However, this year ANYONE is eligible to enter, simply by submitting a photograph of themselves in their outfit or showing their clothing laid out and ready to wear via the Ladies Day Facebook event page here.

Best Dressed Male and Best Dressed Female ‘virtual racegoers’ will win free hospitality packages for the 2021 Randox Health Grand National Ladies Day which will take place on Friday 9th April 2021.

In addition, DJ Anton Powers – who was due to perform in person at the after-party on the day – has put together an iCloud playlist for virtual racegoers to download at home.

Those getting into the spirit of the day and dressing up are also encouraged to post pictures of themselves in their raceday finest on ALL social media platforms using the hashtags #AGrandDayIn and #FabulousFriday in a bid to lift the spirits of the nation.

Dickon White, Regional Director of Jockey Club Racecourses North West, said:

“Our Ladies’ Day is one of the highlights of calendar for the people of Liverpool and the North West and there is always a fantastic atmosphere. While we’re disappointed that we can’t be there in person this year we’re determined to do all we can to lift people’s spirits and put a smile on people’s faces.

“The Style Award winner has only ever been chosen from our racegoers at the course itself, but this is a chance for everyone, no matter where you live, to take part from your living room. Whether you’re wearing the outfit you were originally going to wear on the day or you just fancy dressing up for a change, you’ll be in with a chance of winning VIP tickets for next year’s event.

“We’re not aware of a Style Award or Ladies Day being made available to the whole of Britain before so we’re really hoping everyone gets into the spirit of the day and decides to dress up, even if it’s just for part of the day. We appreciate the amount of time and effort that goes into choosing a stylish raceday outfit and we can’t wait to see lots of entries to our very first online Style Award.”

The Style Award takes place every year on Ladies Day, is one of the highlights of the three-day Randox Health Grand National Festival and usually sees hundreds of fabulous entries as individuals showcase their own style.

Jay Hynd and Gemma Cutting from The Guide Liverpool will be judging the entries – which must be submitted on the Facebook event page - and will announce the winners of both categories on Aintree Racecourse’s social media channels at 5pm on Monday 6th April.

Director of The Guide Liverpool, Jay Hynd said:

"We all know how much effort and expense is put into organising a day at Ladies Day and the Randox Health Grand National, especially from the ladies and gentlemen who attend from our city. We are delighted to be teaming up with The Jockey Club and Aintree Racecourse to help lift spirits for those who were planning to attend the three day Festival.  I'm looking forward to getting out of my comfies for the day and I hope you will too. For the judging we will simply be looking for an outfit and a smile that shines in these uncertain times, let's all have a giggle and A Grand Day In."
