Article 24th May 2024 Epsom Downs

With one week until Ladies Day, leading luxury British brand Holland Cooper are looking forward to sponsoring the Group One Coronation Cup at Epsom Downs Racecourse. The mile and a half Group One contest takes place on Friday 31st May at the Betfred Derby Festival.

Run over the same distance of 12 furlongs and six yards (1m 4f 6y) as the Betfred Derby and the Betfred Oaks but for four-year-olds and upwards, the Holland Cooper Coronation Cup was established in 1902 to celebrate the accession to the throne of King Edward VII.

Holland Cooper is a brand synonymous with British luxury, harnessing a style that lasts forever, a celebration of classic, investment pieces with an equestrian style. Sought after for its tailored elegance, a strong sense of British heritage and fluent approach to blending signature country style with statement city tailoring for both men and women, the perfect brand to be seen in at Epsom Downs on Ladies Day.

Holland Cooper’s association with The Jockey Club began with its sponsorship of the Leading Jockey and Trainer awards at The Cheltenham Festival, while it is now currently the Fashion Partner of the Home of Jump Racing, with Cheltenham also being the home of the Holland Cooper Flagship Boutique. The brand’s support of the Group One race will be their first sponsorship of a Group or Graded race, along with marking their first move into flat racing support.

Tom Sammes, General Manager of Epsom Downs Racecourse, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Holland Cooper on board as the sponsor of this year’s Coronation Cup at the Betfred Derby Festival.

“Ladies Day celebrates the very best of British fashion and style, making this a very appropriate race sponsorship, as Holland Cooper make their first move into flat racing support.

“The 2024 renewal of the race looks all set to be a high-quality affair with last year’s impressive winner Emily Upjohn set to try and defend her crown.”

Jade Holland Cooper, Founder & Managing Director of Holland Cooper, added, “The races are no longer just about horses, they are now also a celebration of timeless fashion, style & elegance.

“Following our success as Fashion Partner of The Festival at Cheltenham Racecourse, it’s an honour and privilege to be associated with Ladies Day at Epsom Downs and to extend our relationship with The Jockey Club in sponsoring The Coronation Cup, one of the most prestigious Group One races at the event.”

THE HOLLAND COOPER CORONATION CUP – FACTS & FIGURES

BACKGROUND

Run over the same distance of 12 furlongs and six yards as The Betfred Derby and The Betfred Oaks but for four-year-olds and upwards, the Holland Cooper Coronation Cup first took place in 1902 to celebrate the accession to the throne of King Edward VII.

Edward VII was a sporting king, who enjoyed three victories in The Derby, two as Prince Of Wales, thanks to Persimmon (1896), Diamond Jubilee (1900) and Minoru (1909), as well as a win in the Grand National at Aintree with Ambush II (1900).

The contest was run at various times during the two World Wars at Newmarket and Newbury, while the 2020 renewal formed part of the QIPCO Guineas Festival at Newmarket in early June as part of the rearranged fixture list due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It forms part of the QIPCO British Champions Series.
