ARKLOW LAD PREVAILS IN £120,000 BETFRED “DASH” HERITAGE HANDICAP

Press Release 6th June 2026 Epsom Downs

The most valuable handicap contested on Derby Day is the £120,000 Betfred “Dash”, which takes place over the world’s fastest five furlongs at Epsom Downs.

In the 2026 renewal, it was four-year-old Arklow Lad (Mick Appleby/Harry Davies, 7-1) who came out on top, prevailing by three-quarters of a length from Vintage Clarets (Richard & Peter Fahey/Ethan Tindall, 11-1).

Harry Davies, the winning jockey, said: ““It was pretty straightforward for me, I obviously had a very good draw (20).

“It was just about getting him up into stride and trying to hold some sort of position. We all knew that the pace was going to be a lot to keep up with – even this horse, he is a very fast horse, and I wasn’t able to make it, so I’m just delighted he’s won. I thought he was off a nice weight, and he had the right sort of profile coming into the race for sure.”

He added: “The last couple of races have probably opened up everyone’s ideas of where the best place is to be. I had the draw from the word go. It was very important that I stuck to my guns and just tried to pin him to the fence.”

Richard Fahey, joint-trainer of runner-up Vintage Clarets, said: “It’s just a race I’ve never won and I’d love to win it!

“Second and fourth (with Stormy Impact), so I shouldn’t really complain too much. Both horses ran very well, and I’m delighted.”

Edward Greatrex, the jockey aboard the third Lexington Blitz (17-2), said: “Ran well. The ground got him beat. Save him for another day.”
