QUOTES FROM 2026 BETFRED DERBY WINNING TRAINER AIDAN O’BRIEN

Press Release 6th June 2026 Epsom Downs

Aidan O’Brien said: "A lot of different people have ridden this horse and he’s done nothing but improve all the time. He’s so genuine, he stays, handles soft ground, Ronan gave him a beautiful ride – very straightforward and confident on him. I’m so delighted for the lads. They put [the work] in, if it wasn’t for them, none of it would be happening. He’s a very tough, hardy horse and he is by the right stallion. What can I say? Unbelievable.”

On this being his 50th British Classic winner, he said: “It’s not me, it’s everybody else. Everybody knows I’m a very small part of a big team, with Coolmore, Ballydoyle and all the farms around, and all the people who do all the different jobs. There are so many people I don’t mention, the people in the offices and the people on the ground in Ballydoyle, Coolmore and everywhere.”

O’Brien also thanked a number of those involved by name, adding: “I’m so delighted for everybody really.”

He added: “He’s the first Camelot Derby winner, he’s an unbelievable stallion. They stay, they’re tough, they have everything. I’m so delighted for everybody.”

Press Conference quotes

“He’s always been a very good-looking horse, but an unassuming, uncomplicated one. It isn’t always the obvious horse - I suppose that’s what makes it exciting.

“To win one Classic is so difficult, let alone 50. I’m so delighted to win big races for John and Sue and Michael and Doreen and Derrick and Sarah, because they put so much into it and that's what allows it to happen.

“Ronan gave him a great ride and was always in the right position; I think that was his first Group One for us, and it’s the Derby.

“We felt that the horse would stay and was better than he had shown in the Dante. He has form on soft ground, but he also has form on good ground. He does stay and he’s hard.

“Benvenuto Cellini jumped out of the stalls on three legs and the other one got caught up - it happens, that’s racing, there’ll be another day with him.”
