It’s a full colour carnival splashed through Epsom Downs over two unmissable days. Friday 3 – Saturday 4 June.
For 2022, Cazoo Derby Day will form part of the four day Jubilee weekend to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, making this historic event even more of a special occasion. Friday 3 June is known as Ladies’ Day, an opportunity to dress in your most stylish attire and enjoy some spectacular racing, including The Cazoo Oaks, one of Britain’s five Classic races. For 2022 this Friday will be an additional bank holiday as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Saturday 4 June is Derby Day – expect big drama and history in the making.
No racing festival on the planet is quite like The Derby at Epsom Downs Racecourse and in 2022 the celebrations promise to be bigger and better than ever before.
Derby Day 2022
Run over a mile and a half in a unique setting, the Derby Day race dates all the way back to 1780, when Diomed won the first ever Derby.
Since then it has become one of the most significant dates in the UK’s calendar, popular with royalty, racing fans and the many thousands who gather each year to watch both from grandstand enclosures and on ‘The Hill’ in the centre of the course.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee At Derby Day
Next year Derby Day at Epsom Downs won’t just celebrate the 243rd running of the world’s greatest Flat race, it will also stage an official commemoration of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee!
The monarch will mark the occasion by attending The Derby with members of her family. As a horseracing fan, owner of many Thoroughbred racehorses and also The Jockey Club’s Patron, Derby Day promises to be a fitting celebration of The Queen’s 70 years on the throne as one of many shows of partnership between The Queen and The Epsom Derby.
Derby Ladies Day at Epsom Downs Racecourse
While its influence over future generations of the Thoroughbred cannot be overstated, to those who make the annual pilgrimage it is an unrivalled sporting and social occasion.
However, the Cazoo Derby Festival is not just about one race. Two days of high quality racing feature the third Classic of the season, the Cazoo Oaks, on the Friday - The Derby Ladies’ Day - along with the Group One Coral Coronation Cup.
As well as the Cazoo Derby, Saturday’s card includes two Group Three contests in the Diomed Stakes and the Princess Elizabeth Stakes, while the ultra-competitive Epsom Dash Handicap over the minimum trip of five furlongs is regarded as the world’s fastest horse race.
Whether you’re in top hat and tails or something a little more casual, be a part of history and join us on Epsom Downs Racecourse for the Cazoo Derby Festival, combining the greatest Flat race of them all with the chance to celebrate a once in a lifetime royal milestone.
