Dear Market Rasen Annual Badge Holders,
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your continued support of Market Rasen Racecourse during the COVID pandemic. It’s been a period of uncertainty and concern and it’s fantastic we are able to now welcome you all back on course to enjoy a day’s racing.
As you are all aware due to continued restrictions into 2021 we were unable to welcome our Annual Badge Holders back on course until May of this year. Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding during this time and also between the period of May to July where restrictions remained in place.
We very much hope you’re enjoying the racing at Market Rasen this season, there has been some hugely competitive racing and it’s fantastic to have a crowd back on course to cheer on the winners!
The Team at Market Rasen are working on the development of a comprehensive ‘free days out’ reciprocal list for you all to enjoy in 2022, but in the meantime are delighted to let you know that Market Rasen Annual Badge Holders can attend the following fixtures this year!
- Leicester Racecourse – Tuesday 12th October
- Fakenham Racecourse- Tuesday 26th October
Should you wish to attend either of these race meetings please ensure you produce your Market Rasen 2021 Annual Metal Badge on arrival to gain free admission. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact Jennifer.email@example.com in advance of the race meeting you plan to attend.
This year’s Annual Badge Holders Committee Forum will be held on Tuesday 26th October at 10am. You are represented by Graham Greene, Jane North and Tony Gibson. We very much hope this newsletter will provide some answers to queries you may have but please ensure in advance of 26th October you put forward any questions or suggestions to the Team at Market Rasen or Tony, Graham or Jane.
It’s been a fabulous summer of racing at Market Rasen, one which has coincided with the return of racegoers. It has been fantastic to see so many familiar faces back at the track as restrictions ease and we are already looking forward to that continuing as racing takes place throughout the winter.
Our summer season started with two meetings in May, typically competitive cards which were bookended by success for the Fergal O’Brien team. They have enjoyed a fantastic summer at Market Rasen, with four winners from 14 runners at the time of writing. The Andrew Crook-trained mare Lady Babs also who enjoyed a good start to her campaign, picking up fine wins here in May and June before going close in July.
We were delighted to welcome a crowd of 5,000 for our biggest summer fixture, Betway Summer Plate Day, which took place in glorious weather. Three of our races featured on ITV Racing, coverage which began with Stonific causing a 40-1 shock in the Betway Summer Handicap Hurdle for David O’Meara before being greeted with a hero’s welcome by his part-owners, the Hurn Racing Club.
Trainer Dr Richard Newland enhanced his fine record at the track when winning the Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap Hurdle with Taste The Fear, while it proved to be a familiar story in the big race itself, as Peter Bowen won the Betway Summer Plate for a record seventh time with Francky Du Berlais.
Unfortunately Peter could not be there to join us on the day due to feeling under the weather, but it was fantastic to welcome his wife Karen to the winners’ enclosure alongside owner Roddy Owen – who himself has now won the race three times!
We host five Saturday meetings during the year at Market Rasen and one of the most popular fixtures in the calendar for racegoers is our Saturday evening card in August, which always proves to be a fantastic occasion.
A bumper crowd was treated to some highly competitive racing, the pick of which proved to be the progressive novice Fontana Ellissi opening his account over hurdles for Nigel Twiston-Davies, while we were also treated to a set by The Moonshiners after racing.
When will reciprocal meetings return?
We are currently in the process of booking reciprocal fixtures for 2022, we are aiming for the same (if not higher) number of reciprocals as planned in 2019 and 2020. There may also be a handful of reciprocal fixtures we can offer to MR Annual Badge Holders for the rest of the year which Jennifer is currently working on. Please see above so far the two dates available.
Will there be any music nights next year?
We hope to stage a minimum of one music night, as always this is dependent on artist availability
Will the tipster competition return next year?
The tipster session is already in place and has been running since badge holders returned this year. We will replicate this in 2022. Information on the tipster competition is within the Limber Hill Bar. The current top five performers are listed below:
Mr D Goodwin
Mrs K Taylor
Mr G Hatfield
Mr J Kane
Mr P Kellington
Will the Jockeys changing facility return to a dining area?
Jockeys changing is back in the main weighing room. Red Rum Bar will re-open as a bar/dining facility from 25th September.
Will the Jockey Club look at the cost of food and drink which is thought to be very expensive: pint of beer £5 and a burger £7?
These costs are in line with all Jockey Club Racecourses and are benchmarked nationally. Sadly the prices will not drop for 2022
Are we moving to entry only by pre-booked tickets with no walk up facility on the race day. (Some members like to bring guests who will decide to come when they see what the weather is like on the day.)
Tickets have been available to purchase on the day of racing since 1st August, we don’t anticipate this will change. We are although remaining as a cashless venue for the foreseeable future, with the exception of betting.
When can friends/family attend with me being a badge holder?
Market Rasen is delighted to re-commence ‘The friends & family day’ next year on Sunday 3rd July. Two free county enclosure badges will be offered and a private box will be opened on the day for all guests to use. Guest badges can be purchased in advance or on the day of racing, please note guests are not permitted within the Limber Hill Bar – this is to ensure the experience for Annual Badge Holders remains the very best it can be.
What are the discounts offered to badge holders in the restaurant and bars? Annual badge Holders receive £10 off their booking on a table in the restaurant and 10% discount off food and drink orders in the Red Rum Bar. Should you wish to book a hospitality box then a 10% discount would be applied. Boxes can only be booked on non-feature days. To enquire about restaurant/hospitality packages please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Why was the Pass card introduced to the 2021 package?
The Pass card is to help us electronically register your attendance. It can be used at any gate to enter the race course and helps in situations such as should your badge be lost or stolen, you have your pass card as a back up with your post code and customer number printed on. In the past the numbers from the metal badge were given upon arrival but as technology has improved we no longer need to note this down, we use the pass card to swipe you in and note you are wearing your correct metal badge. These are updated every year upon renewal and a new card and badge will be issued to you.
What is the cost to renew my 2021 badge after missing 8 fixtures?
This year we are issuing single badges only, this is so that we can obtain all badge holders individual contact details and improve on our communication with you.
Those badge holders that renewed from 2020 and missed eight fixtures at the beginning of 2021, have had this deducted and so their renewal price is £158.00 for 2022. For members that booked from May onwards, a single badge renewal is £230. A new to Market Rasen single badge is priced at £250.00.
