A total of 31 horses remain engaged in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown Park on Saturday 3rd July following today’s scratchings deadline.
The 10-furlong contest forms part of the British Champions Series and is the first significant contest where those from the Classic generation take on their elders.
Heading the market at 11-4 with Coral is Mishriff. The John and Thady Gosden-trained four year old landed last season’s French Derby and has won both his starts so far in 2021, following up victory in the Saudi Cup by landing the Dubai Sheema Classic.
He is closely followed on 3-1 by St Mark’s Basilica, one of 13 remaining entries for Aidan O’Brien. The three year old Siyouni colt is a dual Classic winner in France this season, most recently landing the Group One Prix du Jockey-Club at Chantilly on Sunday.
David Stevens, from sponsor Coral, said: “With all the leading contenders standing their ground at this latest entry stage, the market for this year’s Coral-Eclipse is currently dominated by the last two winners of the Prix du Jockey Club, with the year older Mishriff just holding onto favouritism ahead of his younger rival. However, St Mark’s Basilica has shortened to 3-1, having been cut to 7-2 immediately after his victory at Chantilly on Sunday.”
