Memorial race for man who transformed Lincolnshire’s racecourse

10th May 2019 Market Rasen

The man who was responsible for the modernisation of Market Rasen Racecourse following the Second World War is remembered at the track tomorrow (FRIDAY).

The Victor Lucas Memorial Handicap Hurdle marks the contribution made over 26 years from 1945 to 1971. During that period, the number of fixtures increased from just three a year to 12, while many of Victor Lucas’s ideas for the racecourse layout, paddock, parade ring, grandstands and weighing room are visible in today’s facilities.

The £12,000 race over two miles and seven furlongs is the feature contest on Friday afternoon.

Racing is between 1.40pm and 5.05pm. Tickets for adults are just £10 when booked in advance (£15 on the day). Further details can be found at www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/marketrasen.
