Jockey Sam’s double dose of delight for the doctor

Article 21st November 2019 Market Rasen

Jockey Sam Twiston-Davies and trainer Dr Richard Newland combined for a double triumph at Market Rasen Racecourse on Thursday.

They landed the Pertemps Network Group Handicap Chase with the 13-8 favourite Urbanist before rounding off a lucrative day with 9-1 fancy Benson in the Pertemps-sponsored bumper contest.

Twiston-Davies lies third in the 2019/20 jump jockeys’ championship, one place behind leading northern rider Brian Hughes who also enjoyed success in Lincolnshire on board Incertaine, the 11-2 winner of the Pertemps’ Mares Handicap Hurdle. The six-year-old made three serious jumping errors but still prevailed by a head at the finishing line.

Jockey Aidan Coleman and trainer Olly Murphy got their afternoon off to a good start when 7-4 fancy Dundrum Wood took the opening Henry And Grace 5th Birthday “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle.

The Henry Daly-trained Rapper rewarded his followers after he was backed in from 3-1 into 9-4 favourite for the Pertemps Network Group Handicap Hurdle, a qualifier for the final at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Buster Valentine was the 7-2 winner of the FMCG Executive Network Chase, while the Dan Skelton-trained 11-8 favourite Head Lad took the Pertemps Education Network Lady Riders’ Handicap Hurdle under Bridget Andrews.

Market Rasen Racecourse next meets on Thursday, 5th December.

The racecourse is also getting into the festive mood for one its most popular jump racing occasions of the year, the Rand Farm Park Boxing Day At The Races meeting. Boxing Day racing is Lincolnshire’s ‘Big Christmas Day Out’ and always a great chance for families and friends to continue the festive feeling, with many people in Lincolnshire enjoying a once-a-year chance to go to the races. Adult tickets for Boxing Day are from £11.70 in advance (£13 on the day) for the Lawn Enclosure. Tattersalls advance admission is £19.80 (£22 on the day) and County is £24.30 (£27 on the day).
