Although horseracing has taken place in Nottingham since at least the 18th century, it was first established on the current site at Colwick Park, close to the River Trent, in 1892.
The Colwick Cup pays tribute to the racecourse’s location and since it was first staged in 2015 has developed into a valuable target for improving stayers.
The best winner to date has been Island Brave, who graduated to win the very valuable Old Borough Cup at Haydock Park in both 2021 and 2022.
Initially staged over a mile and three quarters, it was extended in distance to two miles in 2021. This year it has a prize fund of £30,000.
