There will be plenty of festive jumpers both on and off the track as Carlisle Racecourse celebrates its final fun-packed race day of 2017.
The Cumbrian course’s annual Christmas Jumper event – held this Sunday December 17th from 10.10am – boasts a top-quality day of National Hunt racing and Yuletide fun for all the family.
Santa and his elves are now busy setting up their grotto ready for race day with all children not only enjoying free admission to the course but also a meeting with the man in red himself and a free Christmas gift.
And there is a special prize for the racegoer who wears the best festive knitwear – an annual badge which entitles the holder to get into every 2018 race meeting FREE of charge!
Geraldine McKay, Carlisle Racecourse’s General Manager, said: “This final meeting of the year is always a popular one and it’s great to see plenty of Christmas jumpers both on the course… and in the paddock!
“We are looking to reward the wearer of the most festive knitwear or Yuletide outfit with an annual badge – worth £195.
“We have a special judge touring the course on the day, who will pick the winner, so make sure you wear your Christmas jumpers loud and proud.”
There are seven cracking jumps races on the day as, once again, many of the UK’s leading trainers have runners entered.
After another successful year at the racecourse, Geraldine added: “Thousands of racecgoers have seen some fantastic racing here in 2017. Among the highlights was our annual and historic Bell and Plate meeting, we had another great Red Rum Day and a classic Colin Parker Memorial Race, our premier jumps race of the year.
“On top of the racing we welcomed a record crowd of more than 11,000 as chart-topper Jess Glynne played a great post-racing gig here and a fantastic #AmazingMonday ladies day.
“We are now looking forward to another great year here at Carlisle racecourse in 2018 when we welcome more of racings’ top stars and the thousands of racegoers who make a day at the races here so special.”
Tickets for Christmas Jumper Day are £14.00 (in advance) or £17.00 (on the day). Under-17s get in free when accompanied by an adult. Gates open 10.10am, first race is 12.10pm. last race 3.20pm.
