The first race meeting of 2020 is one of the county’s finest sporting occasions and is certainly a day not to be missed.

New Year’s Day hosts a thrilling seven racecard and you will often see top trainers bring a range of quality horses for their first outing in 2020.

In 2019, we saw the partnership of Bryony Frost and Paul Nicholls claim a double with Cliffs of Dover and Greaneteen.

In the Thurlestone Hotel Handicap Hurdle six-year-old gelding, Cliffs of Dover travelled well and was in the lead from the second to last and continued to hold the lead by six lengths ahead of Ebony Gale and Tom O’Brien.

The second win of the day for Paul Nicholls came in the form of Greaneteen and Bryony Frost leading comfortably by eight lengths. The five-year-old gelding built on the winning success and claimed a win a Fontwell three weeks later.

It was day for local trainers with the grey gelding White Moon and Tom Scudamore winning the Hartnell Hotel Beginners Chase for Colin Tizzard.

Brocade Racing iconic for owning Native River who claimed the 2018 Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup saw a second win of the day with five-year-old New Age Dawning.

Each year the electrifying racing on New Year’s Day draws crowds for the biggest day out across the county.

Make it a day out for all the family with entry for under 18’s free of charge when attending with a full paying adult.
