What to do in Nottingham

A city with a colourfulhistory and remarkable heritage, Nottingham has served as a military stronghold, a market town, and producer of lace and pharmaceuticals at various periods in its history. Today Nottingham is a cultural hotbed of music, nightlife and UNESCO City of Literature. If you’re heading to the races and wondering what to do in Nottingham, you’ll be spoilt for choice in this vibrant and proudly unique city.

Explore Wollaton Hall

If you’re wondering what to do near Nottingham, Wollaton Hall is just a short drive from the city centre, and there’s plenty to see and do at this country house. Stunning Elizabethan architecture surrounded by expansive parkland makes for a great day out. The historic house is now Nottingham Natural History Museum, and Nottingham Industrial Museum can be found in the outbuildings.

As if two extensive and fascinating museums wasn’t enough to keep you busy, the outdoor space is often used for large-scale outdoor events from festivals to sports games. If you’re a lover of the outdoors, take a turn in the surrounding parkland, which has a herd of deer who can often be spotted grazing freely.

Wander through Sherwood Forest

Visit the forest made famous by the legend of Robin Hood and his merry men. This ancient woodland has been here since the end of the last Ice Age and is home to an incredible variety of native wildlife. If you’re unsure what to do in the Midlands, Sherwood Forest is one of the top attractions in the region.

Visit the famed Major Oak, supposed hideout of Robin Hood, which is estimated to be up to 1000 years old. Today the tree’s enormous limbs are partially supported to protect it from damage. If you’re looking for something more action-packed than a walk in the woods, Go Ape! Has the answer. Swing, climb and zip through the treetops at this action-packed adventure park suitable for children aged 10 and over.
