Racing at Sandown Park Racecourse on Friday, 6 March abandoned

Article 5th March 2020 Sandown Park

Racing at Sandown Park on Friday, 6 March abandoned: following 5mm of overnight rain and areas of waterlogged ground, Friday’s meeting has been abandoned.

An inspection will take place on Friday with regards racing on Saturday with the timing of this inspection to be announced later today.  The Grand Military Gold Cup will be added to Saturday's card to make eight races.

Andrew Cooper, Clerk of the Course at Sandown Park Racecourse, said:

“We have just experienced the second wettest February at Sandown Park in 20 years, and the October to February period has seen about 8 inches of rain more than average.

“With areas of waterlogged ground on both the Steeple Chase and Hurdle Courses, Friday’s meeting has been abandoned.

“An inspection will take place on Friday with regards racing on Saturday with an update as soon as possible following this inspection. We are expecting further rain today but then both Friday and Saturday look predominantly dry which gives us cause for some optimism for racing on Saturday. Further updates including the timing of Friday’s inspection will follow in due course.“

All customers who purchased tickets will receive an automatic full refund to the card used for payment which will be received within three to five days.

Sandown Park Members will receive details regarding which fixtures they will be able to attend at another course on presentation of their membership badge or card in lieu of this fixture.

Hospitality guests will be contacted by telephone.
