The Coral-Eclipse has received 45 entries for its 2021 renewal at Sandown Park on Saturday 3rd July.
Staged over a mile and a quarter, the Group One contest forms part of the British Champions Series and is the first major contest of the season when three-year-olds take on older rivals.
Mishriff, trained by John and Thady Gosden, has been installed as the 5-2 favourite with sponsor Coral. The four-year-old Make Believe colt, winner of the Group One Prix Jockey Club in 2020, has already claimed two lucrative prizes this year with victories in the Saudi Cup and Dubai Sheema Classic.
John and Thady Gosden are also responsible for Coral’s 5-1 second favourite Lord North, last season’s Group One Prince of Wales’s Stakes winner who landed the Group One Dubai turf on his return to action.
Aidan O’Brien, seeking a sixth Coral-Eclipse victory, has the most entries with his 16 hopefuls including last year’s third, Japan, and recent QIPCO 1000 Guineas heroine Mother Earth.
Sir Michael Stoute is the joint most successful trainer of all-time in the Coral-Eclipse with six victories and he has three entries in 2021, headed by recent Group Two Huxley Stakes runner-up Sangarius.
