72 entries have been received for the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown Park on Saturday 28th April.
The Grade 3 feature of bet365 Jump Finale has attracted multiple entries from a number of high profile trainers. Last year’s winner, Henllan Harri, could defend his crown for trainer Peter Bowen, who also has Minella Daddy, Pearl Swan and Henri Parry Morgan entered in the race.
Current Grand National favourite Blaklion is one of seven entered for Nigel Twiston-Davies. Paul Nicholls, a four-time winner of the race, has also got seven entered, his team is led by Saphir Du Rheu, who was last seen when being pulled up in the Timico Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival.
Another Grand National hopeful, Gold Present, is one of four entered for Champion Trainer Nicky Henderson who has also got Beware the Bear, Sugar Baron and Baden. Colin Tizzard could have as many as four runners in the race. His team is headed by Sizing Tennessee, who recently finished third at the Cheltenham Festival. Theatre Guide, Royal Vacation and West Approach make up his list of possible runners.
Of the Irish entries, Gordon Elliott could be represented by Ucello Conti, whilst 2016 Grand National-winning trainer Mouse Morris has three entries for Gigginstown House Stud; Alpha Des Obeaux, who was last seen finishing sixth in the Unibet Irish Gold Cup, Thunder and Roses and Rogue Angel. Anthony Mullins trains the only other Irish entry Glencairn View.
Andrew Cooper, Head of Racing and Clerk of the Course, Sandown Park Racecourse said:
“Based on these entries we look set for another high quality and competitive renewal of the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown Park this year, which forms the centrepiece of the last day of the jump racing season in this country. We also have one of racing’s most popular horses, Cue Card, set to make his final appearance in the bet365 Oaksey Chase before retiring and there is also a chance that we will see Nicky Henderson’s superstar, Altior. We are all set for a cracking final day of the season.”
Last week it was announced that that bet365 have renewed their sponsorship of the Jump Finale fixture up to and including 2020.
Jump Finale will be on Saturday 28th April.
