TOP STARS BAAEED AND MISHRIFF 4-1 JOINT-FAVOURITES AS 58 ENTRIES RECEIVED FOR GROUP ONE CORAL-ECLIPSE

Press Release 11th May 2022 Sandown Park

A total of 58 entries were revealed today for the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown Park on Saturday 2nd July.

Staged over 10 furlongs, the Coral-Eclipse is open to three year olds and upwards and is the season’s first Group One middle-distance clash of the generations. One of the longest sponsorships in racing, the Eclipse has been backed by Coral since 1976 and it also forms part of the QIPCO British Champions Series.

Jointly-heading the market at 4-1 with Coral are star miler Baaeed (William Haggas), who is due to make his seasonal reappearance at Newbury on Saturday in the Lockinge Stakes, and the multiple Group One winner Mishriff (John & Thady Gosden), who was third in the 2021 renewal of the Coral-Eclipse.

Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby has five entries including 2021 Cazoo Derby victor Adayar abd Coroebus, winner of the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on 30th April.

The Queen could be represented in the year of her Platinum Jubilee by Reach For The Moon (John & Thady Gosden), who was successfuil in the Group Three Solario Stakes at Sandown Park in 2021. Canisbay landed the 1965 Eclipse for Her Majesty.

Coral PR Manager, John Hill, said: “The Coral-Eclipse is one of the highlights of the summer in the Flat calendar and we may be set for a stellar renewal of the contest at Sandown Park. Leading miler Baaeed and globetrotting star Mishriff top the betting to prevail at the Esher racecourse.

“2,000 Guineas winner Coroebus could step up in trip for the race and is also prominent in the betting to add to his success in the British Classic at Newmarket.”
