Grand National Dress Code

There’s no official dress code at The Grand National. We encourage you to come dressed to feel your best! Aintree is a spectacle of colour for all three days of the festival, with many using their trip as an opportunity to showcase their favourite raceday looks".

Please note:

Fancy dress: avoid inappropriate or offensive outfits, as anything deemed vulgar or derogatory may be refused entry.

Sportswear: avoid wearing team colours/sports kits.

Touch wood… The sun usually shines for the Randox Grand National! And regardless of if the weather plays ball or not the girls will certainly dress up in something bright and bold so lads can do the same. It is the one National Hunt meeting where we would encourage a brighter suit or even just a tie that stands out with more colour than usual. If the sun shines, perfect! If it doesn’t, you won’t be out of place because the whole of Aintree is dressed for sunshine anyway.

Our advice for first timers is to use what you already have and then purchase one new item that makes it feel like more of an occasion, you don’t need to buy a whole new outfit. Most men have either a suit at home, or some form of trouser/chino/ blazer that will work. All you have to do is purchase a new tie, or smart blazer and an old outfit will feel brand new.

You will rarely look smarter than when you are wearing a good suit.

Otherwise simply be smart, be comfortable, a little colourful, and make sure it fits!

As mentioned besides disastrous weather we would avoid the classic National Hunt get up, dark overcoats and flat caps that you might see at a November meeting, be a bit more fun for Aintree.

Other than that the obvious of wearing what fits and certainly don’t kill your day with brand new shoes giving you blisters!

Baker boy caps rather than farmer flat caps probably work best for Aintree but we likely won't be wearing a hat and will be wishing more for sunglasses!

Look and feel smart. Wear something that’s a little ‘different’, you are not off to work! And enjoy it. We absolutely love the feeling on raceday as you leave the house dressed up, cash in your pocket, and a big day of racing ahead!
