Dressing for the races

Iconic British high-street retailer River Island are the Official Style Partner of Ladies’ Day at the Randox Grand National Festival 2024, joining House of Cavani The Jockey Club’s Official Style Partner.

Dress the part of someone who wins big at the races, and you probably will. Manifestation and all that. From Aintree to Cheltenham, we love dressing up for raceday (when else can you wear a fascinator?) which is why we’ve partnered with River Island to create a style guide. Oh, and if your horse wins that’s just the cherry on top.

Embellishment

Sparkle your way to the winner’s circle in head-to-toe embellishment for show-pony embodied glamour. If you can’t go all out on race day, when can you? River Island’s bedazzled mini dress in lime green is the perfect option for less strict dress codes. Add a matching fascinator, clutch and towering heels to finish off your winning look.

Tailoring

Dresses not your thing? River Island has got you covered. Join (and outdo) the boys in a suit instead. Choose from smart separates in every shade from show stopping magenta to neutral cream. Style your three piece suit up with metallic mules and a matching clutch bag. Odds on you winning are very, very high. Kind of like your heels.

Co-ords

Florals for spring? Not exactly groundbreaking but wearing a co-ord to raceday can be. Stand out in a sea of dresses in something a little different but just as elegant. River Island are big fans of versatility and with a co-ord the possibilities are endless. Wear together with strappy stilettos and a clutch or separately to get the most out of your wardrobe. Whether you’re placing bets or posing with the winning steed, everyone will want to know where your outfit is from.

Satin

Raceday dress codes don’t have to be complicated. Stick to tried and trusted silhouettes and shapes in luxurious fabrics that always look good especially when the sun shines. We’re talking, of course, about satin. If you’re going for sophistication, choose a midi or maxi hemline and a colour that doesn’t shout but whispers like a rich cocoa or bright cream. Accessories are where you can have fun playing with textures and even pops of colour to make your outfit authentically you. In satin, you’ll always slide into first place.
