Box4Kids Enjoy Day At The Races

Press Release 4th June 2021 Warwick

The Barrie Wells Trust were delighted to return to Warwick Racecourse for their first Box4Kids event since the Covid-19 pandemic began over 14 months ago.

Liam and his family were invited by the Trust to the Celebration Race Night to enjoy a VIP experience from the executive boxes.

Liam is a huge fan of horse racing and has watched many racing fixtures on TV through lockdown so this was the perfect opportunity for him to share with his family.

Liam was diagnosed with pilocytic astrocytoma brain tumour and structural focal epilepsy. He had surgery a few years ago to remove the tumour however, sadly he relapsed and had to have further treatment.

After the event he said; ‘It was a fantastic evening and I really enjoyed being able to meet and jockeys and go to the last jump. The experience was surreal. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.’

Barrie Wells, MBE said, "I am delighted to see my Box4Kids initiative return to Warwick Racecourse after what has been a very tough year for everyone, we are very thankful to The Jockey Club's continued support and looking forward to more exciting events this year."

The Barrie Wells Trust are one of The Jockey Club's official chosen charity partners, specifically supporting the Trust's Box4Kids initiative with racecourses providing access to executive boxes for seriously ill and disabled children to enjoy.
