An open letter from Simon Durrant, General Manager of Epsom Downs Racecourse

Article 3rd July 2020 Epsom Downs

We’re sorry that we’re unable to invite you to Epsom Downs Racecourse this year to celebrate Investec Derby Day together.

Due to the ongoing health situation the Downs will be closed to public access from 00:00hrs to 23:59hrs on Saturday 4th July. By closing off the Downs this will allow the Investec Derby to remain in its home location, providing the horses with the historic test that the race has always posed.

Horses only get one chance to run in The Derby, as the race is only open to horses aged three years old. For them, their Owners, Trainers and Jockeys, this is the culmination of years of hard work and training, their one chance of achieving racing immortality at the Derby Winning Post!

Thank you for staying at home to celebrate this year. Our team is working tirelessly to ensure the Downs are safe and secure, and we are grateful to you for respecting that. Now it is time for our racecourse to take centre stage on ITV1 – the best place for you to watch this fantastic day of racing, starting from 13:50pm.

I can’t wait to welcome you back to Epsom Downs Racecourse next year, but for now, thank you again for staying at home. Stay safe and have a brilliant day!

Simon Durrant
General Manager
