Facts & Figures about the 2025 Betfred Derby winner Lambourn

It was a record-extending 11th Betfred Derby success for trainer Aidan O’Brien following 2001 Galileo, 2002 High Chaparral, 2012 Camelot, 2013 Ruler Of The World, 2014 Australia, 2017 Wings Of Eagles, 2019 Anthony Van Dyck, 2020 Septentine, 2023 Auguste Rodin and 2024 City Of Troy).

Similarly, it was also a record-extending 12th success for Betfred Derby winners owned by a Coolmore syndicate. All of O’Brien’s winners were for Coolmore while the 2011 winner Pour Moi, trained by Andre Fabre, was also owned by a Coomore syndicate. Lambourn is the seventh Betfred Derby winner to win in the dark blue silks of Sue Magnier.

It was a first Betfred Derby for jockey Wayne Lordan on his ninth ride in the Classic. His previous best finishing position was third about Galileo Rock (2013), Japan (2019) and Los Angeles (2019).

Lambourn is a first Betfred Derby winner for his sire Australia. Australia won the Derby himself in 2014 and that horse’s sire, Galileo, won the Derby in 2021.

Lambourn won from stall 10, having been assigned that position at the draw ceremony on Wednesday. Stall 10 is the most successful berth since starting stalls were introduced in 1967, with Lambourn becoming the 12th horse to win from that stall position.

Lambourn won the Chester Vase on his previous start, beating Lazy Griff who was also runner-up today. He becomes the sixth Chester Vase winner to go and win the Derby since 1946 following Ruler Of The World (2013), Shergar (1981) and Henbit (1980).

The 2025 Betfred Derby was the 246th renewal.
