Betfair Spokesperson, James Mackie. said: “The 2026 Betfair Chase, Haydock Park’s Grade 1 highlight, has attracted 19 entries and I am very much looking forward to seeing a competitive renewal of the valuable race this season.
“Last year’s winner Grey Dawning is the 11-10 favourite to retain his Betfair Chase title for trainer Dan Skelton, having also finished second in the race the year before, with Heart Wood for Henry De Bromhead looking to take the prize for Ireland at 5-1 second favourite.
“Second in the 2026 Grand National, Iroko is looking for Grade 1 glory at 7-1 and Salver for the new Jamie and Josh Moore team has been installed at the same price. Both are looking to keep the race in Britain.
“The Irish could send over as many as six runners for the 2026 renewal of the race with the standout chances behind Heart Wood being Grade 1 Savills Chase winner Affordale Fury at 7-1, and 2025 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin at 12-1 (from 50-1).
“Betfair ambassador Paul Nicholls could start off stable star Caldwell Potter in the Grade 1 contest. He is 12-1 and was last seen taking the Grade 1 Mildmay Novices’ Chase at the 2025 Aintree Grand National meeting.
“The entry stage for the 2026 Betfair Chase sets up a thrilling contest on Saturday 21st November.”
About The Betfair Chase
First staged in 2005, the Betfair Chase rapidly established itself as one of the highlights of the Jump racing calendar in the UK.
The extended three miles and a furlong contest is Britain’s first Grade One chase of the season and represents the first real opportunity of the campaign for any horse with aspirations of joining the chasing elite to show what they are made of.
Alongside the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup, Ladbrokes King George VI Chase at Kempton Park and the Aintree Bowl, it is one of only four non-novice Grade One chases in Britain run over a distance of three miles plus.
The Betfair Chase forms the first leg of The Jockey Club Chase Triple Crown (for the Kauto Star Trophy). The subsequent two legs are the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase on Boxing Day and the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup in March.
The great Kauto Star is the most successful horse in the history of the Betfair Chase with four wins.
