THIS IS THE CLASSIC...

One of our feature racedays of the season, with three graded races on the card is the Agetur Classic Chase Day. It gives racing fans a taste for what’s to come throughout the season from both well-seasoned handicappers to progressive novices.

The Grade 3 Agetur Classic Handicap Chase is the highlight of the day with many contenders using the race as a trial for the Randox Grand National. One For Arthur won the 2017 renewal and subsequently went on to win the Grand National the same season.

Also home to the Grade 2 Ballymore Leamington Novices’ Hurdle, Classic Chase Day has seen many progressive horses coming up through the ranks, winning the race and going on to have successful careers, including winning at The Cheltenham Festival. The likes of The New One and Willoughby Court both won this race and subsequently won at The Festival.

CLASSIC BY NAME, CLASSIC BY NATURE

The Classic Chase race is a Grade 3 handicap steeplechase raced at Warwick Racecourse in January of each year.

The first running of the race took place in 1974 (previously called The Warwick Brooke Bond Oxo National Chase) up until 2000. The Classic Chase race as we know it was introduced in 2004.

It welcomes horses aged five and over and run over a distance of around 3m 5f 54yds with 22 fences jumped.

It's a test of staminia in every sense of the word and has proven to be a great prep for the Randox Grand National, with One For Arthur winning both races in 2017.
