THIS IS THE CLASSIC...

One of our feature racedays of the season, with three graded races on the card is Classic Chase Day. It gives racing fans a taste for what’s to come throughout the season from both well-seasoned handicappers to progressive novices.

The Grade 3 McCoy Contractors Civil Engineering Classic Handicap Chase is the highlight of the day with many contenders using the race as a trial for the Randox Health Grand National. One For Arthur won the 2017 renewal and subsequently went on to win the Grand National the same season.

Also home to the Grade 2 Ballymore Leamington Novices’ Hurdle, Classic Chase Day has seen many progressive horses coming up through the ranks, winning the race and going on to have successful careers, including winning at The Cheltenham Festival. The likes of The New One and Willoughby Court both won this race and subsequently won at The Festival.

On 14 January 2021, we held a preview evening. Host Josh Stacey was joined by jockeys Harry Skelton and Charlie Poste along with Warwick General Manager, Andre Klein.

The Classic Chase race is a Grade 3 handicap steeplechase raced at Warwick Racecourse in January of each year, with the first race raced in 1974 (previously called The Warwick Brooke Bond Oxo National Chase) up until 2000. The Classic Chase race as we know it was introduced in 2004.

It welcomes horses aged five and over and run over a distance of around 3m 5f 54yds with 22 fences jumped.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Currently all horseracing fixtures in England must take place behind closed doors and without spectators.

However, on February 22nd 2021 the Government announced plans to help the country out of its National Lockdown. As part of these plans racing fixtures staged from May 17th 2021 will be able to welcome up to 4,000 spectators, if the Government’s tests are met for moving into Phase 3 of lifting lockdown restrictions. Similarly, if the Government’s tests and criteria are met, then indoor conferences and events of up to 1,000 people will also be possible from May 17th. The Government will provide further guidance nearer the time.

The Government also announced that events staged from June 21st 2021 will be able to operate at pre-pandemic capacities, if the Government’s tests are met for moving into Phase 4 of lifting lockdown restrictions.

FEBRUARY 2021: NEW ANNOUNCEMENT:

Warwick Racecourse has been granted the authority by the WDC and WCC to extend its managed boundaries during racing hours, in order to remove the risks posed by unauthorized and illegal viewing of the races along the stretch of the track that runs adjacent to Bread and Meat Close and Vitell Drive.

As a result of this decision, access to St Mary’s Area Car Parks 3 and 4 will be restricted to residents and their guests only. There will therefore be no public parking available in any St Mary’s Area Car Parks, which is standard procedure on days when we are racing.

It has been carried out to protect public safety, and has been endorsed as a necessary measure by Public Health England. Access will be granted to the area immediately after racing concludes. Thank you for your understanding.

Owners attending must comply with our terms and conditions of entry and the Government restrictions, including regarding social mixing between households.

Light refreshments will be available and there will be no time limit on how long owners are permitted to remain on course.
