The McCreery Military Amateur Jockeys Hurdle is named after one of the great military jockeys, a great soldier, General Sir Dick McCreery, a stalwart supporter of both Wincanton & The Blackmore Vale and whose family have such strong connections at Wincanton Racecourse.

The McCreery Military Amateur Jockeys Hurdle is the first of three Military Race Meetings in the National Hunt calendar giving military jockeys invaluable race experience ahead of the Grand Military Gold Cup and the Royal Artillery Gold Cup Meeting at Sandown Park.
