Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) Parade

Taking place between 12.25pm - 12.45pm

 

A parade of retired racehorses takes place in the paddock from 12.25pm to 12.45pm. The parade showcases the versatility of the thoroughbred together with the range of activities open to racehorses when they finish their racing careers, thanks to the work of Retraining of Racehorses (RoR).


Today’s parade includes many former racehorse who have found their new owners through the Godolphin Lifetime Care programme and have a very active second careers.


Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) is British Horseracing’s official charity for the welfare of horses that have retired from racing. RoR is committed to safeguarding the welfare of all former racehorses through various preventative measures, including:


• Setting industry standards for retraining former racehorses.
• Providing training and education to owners to build lifelong partnerships with their retired racehorses.
• Promoting the versatility of these horses in various equestrian activities and facilitating their participation in competitions.
• Maintaining a robust tracking system for former racehorses through RoR membership.

 

RoR also extends support to former racehorses in times of need through its welfare work.
RoR annually stages over 40 separate competition series across a wide range of disciplines, catering for all levels of ability including dressage, showing, polo, eventing, show jumping, endurance, hunting and horseball.

ROR Parade

11-year-old gelding by Cape Cross, formerly trained by Charlie Appleby 
Breeder: Godolphin
African Jazz (Jazz) ran eight times on the flat, winning twice, before he was retired from racing in 2019. Abi Sole acquired African Jazz through Godolphin Rehoming in October 2022, and the pair are currently competing in the RoR showing series and dressage competitions.  Jazz won both the Open showing and Challenge classes at Suffolk Show this year, shortly after he placed in the Tattersalls RoR Open Ridden final at Hickstead and at the RoR National Championships; he also placed third in the Novice Dressage Championship there. Jazz also competes successfully in British Eventing classes up to 90cm.  

 Abi says: “Jazz is a dream to own and retrain. He is so kind and biddable, he really is a pleasure to ride and be around.”

17-year-old gelding by Dubawi, formerly trained by Saeed bin Suroor
Breeder: Gerry O’ Brien

 

Ahzeemah aka Zoome has been with Annette since April 2016, and he has been a huge part of the family since. Having done a little bit of everything, in 2025 they focussed on showing, with some wonderful results. They qualified for the 2026 Tattersalls RoR Amateur Final at Hickstead and the RoR National Championships at Aintree.

 

Annette says “Ahzeemah does seems to rise to the occasion in the showring and relishes being the centre of attention, above all he's very happy and enjoying life after racing”

14-year-old gelding by Babodana, formerly trained by Mark H Tompkins
Breeder: D D Scott
Babochoff
started off his second career showjumping, eventing and team chasing but he found his niche showing. Owned and produced by Emma who got him straight out of training, he has excelled at RoR showing.  He has an extensive CV having been in the Tattersalls RoR final at Hickstead three times and placed every time, he has also qualified for the London International Horse Show for the last three years in a row.

Emma says, “He is truly a horse of a lifetime”.

16-year-old gelding by Bahamian Bounty, formerly trained by Tom Dascombe and also Marjorie Fife.

Breeder: Mount Coote Partnership

 

Barracuda Boy, aka Ronnie is owned by Debbie Hodge-Phillips had a very successful career as a sprinter winning over £103,000 in prize money and claimed a track record at Haydock Park over 5 furlongs. He has retrained as a show horse and has proved to be just as successful in his new career.  Barracuda Boy had an impressive 2025 season, winning the RoR Open In-hand class at Royal Windsor and was Reserve In-hand Champion. He also won at Equifest and the Royal Norfolk Show as well as competing at Burghley. This year has been just as busy culminating in him winning the Tattersalls RoR Veteran In-hand class at the National Championships before becoming Reserve In-hand Supreme Champion.

 

Debbie says, “He is a pleasure to have at home and is a real character”.

8-year-old gelding by Golden Horn, formerly trained by Andre Fabre
Breeder: Godolphin (IRE)


Having won over £700,000 on the racetrack Botanik arrived with Millie through the Godolphin Rehoming scheme in 2024. They compete in dressage and were placed fifth in their first competition season together at the area regional finals. Botanik absolutely loves going out to competitions and showing off. He known as a very sweet horse on the ground and is a firm yard favourite.

 

Millie says, “Botanik means the world to me and I’m forever grateful to Godolphin for trusting me with him”.

13-year-old gelding by Bernardini, formerly trained by Charlie Longsdon
Breeder: Queen Eizabeth II

 

Forth Bridge, affectionately known as William, ran under both codes and won £94,000 in prize money. 

Since leaving racing Forth Bridge has turned his hoof to dressage, now competing at Advanced Medium level with his rider Louise Robson. Forthbridge loves his flying changes and hacking.

 

Louise says “Forth Bridge loves playing with his friends in the field, rolling in the muddiest of puddles and jumping out of his field when the opportunity arises”.

6-year-old gelding by Exceed and Excel, formerly trained by Charlie Appleby
Bred by Godolphin


Mischief Magic, a six-time winner for Godolphin, posted victories in Great Britain, the US and the UAE. His Group 3 win at two earned him a trip to the Breeders' Cup where he flew home to land the Group 1 Juvenile Turf Sprint. He also won the Listed Dubai Sprint at Meydan and retired from racing with earnings of well over £600,000.


Mischief Magic moved to Godolphin's rehoming yard earlier this year and has settled in beautifully, taking part in several ridden demonstrations for visitors. He is already a firm favourite with the team there.

15-year-old gelding by Le Havre, formerly trained by J-C Rouget and Saeed bin Suroor Breeder: S A Franklin Finance 


Saint Gregoire (Greg) was originally trained and raced in France, where we won six times, he came to Louise Robson via the Godolphin Rehoming programme. They are currently competing at Medium/Advanced Medium level. Greg won the RoR Medium regional title in 2023 and 2024, the RoR national title at Medium in 2023 and the RoR Special Open title in 2024 and 2025. Greg has an amazing trainable brain and loves the higher levels of dressage   

 

Louise says, “Greg also loves performing in demonstrations, being part of community visits and meeting new people. He adores playing with his friends int he field and causing slight mischief at times."

19-year-old gelding by Lonhro, formerly trained by Saeed bin Suroor

Breeder: Woodlands Stud

 

Scarf has had a varied life since retiring from racing with his owner Beverley. He has competed mainly as a show horse winning numerous championships, both ridden and in-hand. He was champion racehorse two years running at the East Anglia Horse Show, and Tattersalls RoR Open Ridden winner Suffolk Show and he was crowned Equifest Ridden Retrained Racehorse Champion last year. Scarf has also turned his hoof to side-saddle, dressage and more recently formation riding. He has also started jumping which he loves.

 

Beverly says, “What he enjoys most of all is hacking and hanging out with his best mate Charlie a 12hh Welshie”.

16-year-old gelding by Dansili, formerly trained by John Ferguson 

Breeder: Darley

 

A winner on the flat and over hurdles Vancouverite came to Emily Simpson through the Godolphin Rehoming scheme and has proved extremely versatile, doing dressage, showjumping, cross-country, pleasure and endurance rides and British Eventing classes. This year Vancouverite has again been successful in the show ring, including a victory at the Jockey Club RoR National Championships in the extremely competitive 2026 Tattersalls RoR Challenge Final.

 

Emily says: “Vancouverite is a very special boy who is very loved by us all. We couldn’t imagine life without him.”

10-year-old gelding by Canford Cliffs, formerly trained by Henry Tett
Breeder: Denis McDonnell


After an injury ended Peveril Point's racing career, he was bought by Jude Worthington to retrain for Horseball. Now competing in the pro-elite league with the OutGunned team, Peveril Point and David represent Great Britain in the Champions League.

 

David says, "He’s also training in dressage, currently at elementary level and hunts occasionally with Jude."

7-year-old gelding by Le Havre, formerly trained by Ivan Furtado
Breeder: China Horse Club International


Silver Knife was bought in 2024 to retrain for Horseball. He quickly found success in dressage and in his first Horseball competitions. Silver Knife helped Derby Horseball win the pro-elite league and has helped his owner David Worthington gain selection for the Team GB Horseball pro-elite team that took place in Argentina last year. Future plans include more dressage and Horseball competitions and will hunt this winter.

 

Jude says “Silver Knife is a pleasure to have in the yard as he is so versatile and talented”.
