UPDATE REGARDING THE PILOT EVENT AT NEWMARKET
Updated on 9 September
The Jockey Club will discuss with local authorities before making a decision on pilot racedays involving limited crowds at Newmarket later this month.
It comes after the Government today (Wednesday) announced a tightening of restrictions and a ‘rule of six’, preventing gatherings of more than six people unless in Government-approved circumstances.
The Department for Culture, Media & Sport has subsequently indicated that the pilot racedays on September 24th, 25th and 26th at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile may still be able to go ahead, but with extra restrictions included a reduction in the capacity limit to 1,000 people.
Ahead of next week’s pilot event, our team have been busy working through the pre-registration requests from our annual badge holders. Those who’ve pre-registered, keep an eye out for our email on Monday 21 September for confirmation of which days you’re registered for.
In light of the new limited capacity it is necessary to take tickets for the Newmarket racedays off sale.
We are now processing refunds for all those who purchased admission tickets.
In a statement The Jockey Club said: “Jockey Club Racecourses (JCR) is due to stage two limited spectator trials this month - at Warwick Racecourse on 21st September and at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile Course from 24th to 26th September.
“Following updated Government guidance announced today, JCR understands that the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) supports the pilots going ahead with a new capacity limit of 1,000 people on site and a range of health and safety measures that are already planned to be in place.
“JCR will now discuss this central Government update with the respective local authorities before making a further announcement.”
WE ARE CURRENTLY RACING BEHIND CLOSED DOORS
Due to the ongoing public health situation racing is currently taking place behind closed doors with only the minimum number of people allowed on site. Our first event back in front of crowds will be The Cambridgeshire Meeting pilot event on 24-26 September.
The British Horseracing Authority have confirmed our fixture list to the end of 2020 and all fixture dates on our website are correct.
If you had tickets for any of our events impacted by cancellations we have emailed you to explain next steps. If you purchase tickets for a future event and we are then unable to welcome you to that raceday we operate a full refund policy.
We look forward to welcoming you back to our racecourse as soon as we can.
Thank you for your continued support of Newmarket Racecourses.
The wellbeing of our team and guests at Newmarket Racecourse are always our top priority. We have been awarded ‘The Good to Go mark’ for the health and safety measures we have in place, ready for when we are able to welcome you back.
