WHAT CAN I WEAR TO NEWMARKET RACECOURSES?
Dress codes have been an iconic part of racing for decades. While it’s embedded in our history, the world is constantly changing - and so are we.
When you join us at our race days, we want you to feel comfortable, welcome and be dressed for the weather. A day at the races is a day for everyone. And while we’ve got a guide on what to wear when you’re visiting Newmarket Racecourses, we know that ‘dressing smartly’ can mean different things to different people.
Though, it’s important to remember there is a strict dress code in our Hospitality, Restaurant and Champions Lawn facilities.
PREMIER ENCLOSURE/HOSPITALITY AREAS
Racegoers are encouraged to dress smartly in the Premier Enclosure. Most would wear smart trousers or tailored shorts, a shirt and formal shoes or a dress or trouser suit with a hat or fascinator, but these are not compulsory. We understand being dressed smartly means different things to different people but if helpful, our guidance is to treat a day at the races as similar to a wedding. Fancy dress and sports shirts are not permitted.
Joining us in hospitality?
If you’re joining us in the Champions Gallery Restaurant, Summer House restaurant, Private boxes/pavilions, our shared pavilion or Champions Lawn - here are some style tips to help you nail your race day look:
- Jacket, collar and ties are encouraged
- Wear a fascinator or hat, although this isn’t compulsory
- Children should be dressed smartly
- Fancy dress isn’t permitted in these areas
Similarly to the Premier Enclosure, we do encourage racegoers to dress smartly in our Hospitality & Restaurant facilities. Our advice is to imagine you’re going to a smart wedding and dress accordingly.
Grandstand & Paddock / Garden Enclosures
In the Grandstand & Paddock and Garden Enclosure people tend to dress in a more relaxed way. Fancy dress is permitted but must be in good taste so as not to cause offence.
