Enhanced weather and forecasting data available for 2021 QIPCO Guineas Festival

Article 21st April 2021 Newmarket

Newmarket Racecourse is collaborating with leading weather forecasting and analysis company Weatherquest and long-time partner TurfTrax to provide participants and racing fans with up-to-date and bespoke forecasting and analysis from today via dedicated and easy to access web portals.

The services will give participants and racing fans who will be watching the QIPCO Guineas Festival from home access to the latest and most accurate forecasts and weather data to assist in their running plans and enjoyment of the meeting.

The portal provided by Norwich-based private forecasters Weatherquest is now available here. It will be updated each morning at 6:30am to give a detailed forecast and outlook until Sunday 2nd May.

A bespoke four-day video forecast will also be published via Newmarket’s YouTube and social media channels on the afternoon of Wednesday 28 April.

To complement this service, Newmarket is once again working with TurfTrax to provide the “WeatherTrax Live” service, which shows live data from the course including rainfall, wind speed & direction, soil moisture content and rails positions and is available alongside the official going map here.

Michael Prosser Clerk of the Course at Newmarket Racecourses, said: “We’re pleased to be able to provide more sophisticated and up-to-date data than ever before as we build up to the 2021 QIPCO Guineas Festival.

“With the expertise and experience of Weatherquest and our long-time partners TurfTrax we should be able to cater for all levels of interest, whether they be participants or racing fans, in an easily accessible and easy-to-understand format.”

Chris Bell, Meteorologist at Weatherquest said: “Weatherquest are proud to be supplying Newmarket Racecourse with weather forecasting services in support of this year's events. Weatherquest has over a decade of experience providing weather services to the horseracing industry and we look forward to building a strong relationship with Newmarket Racecourse”

Mike Maher, Managing Director of Cambridgeshire-based technology company, TurfTrax, said: “We are delighted to extend our long-standing association with Newmarket Racecourses with the introduction of WeatherTrax Live at the QIPCO Guineas Festival.

“WeatherTrax Live was very well received when it was first used at Newmarket at last year’s Moët & Chandon July Festival, and we look forward to continuing to play our part in the provision of enhanced weather data at one of British racing’s most important fixtures for participants and those watching from home on ITV or RacingTV.”
