Moët & Chandon July Festival: Entries revealed for Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes and Princess of Wales’s Tattersalls Stakes

Article 16th June 2021 Newmarket

Entries are revealed today for the two feature contests on the first two days of the Moët & Chandon July Festival at Newmarket next month.

There are 35 fillies and mares engaged in the Group One Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes, which takes place over a mile on Gentlemen’s Day (Friday 9th July) and is part of the QIPCO British Champions Series.

Aidan O’Brien recorded back-to-back Falmouth Stakes victories with Alice Springs (2016) and Roly Poly (2017). Among his seven entries this year are Love, who is due to make her seasonal debut at Royal Ascot this afternoon (Wednesday) having annexed two Classics very impressively in 2020 – the QIPCO 1000 Guineas and the Oaks. This year’s QIPCO 1000 Guineas heroine, Mother Earth, also features among the Ballydoyle septet.

Sir Michael Stoute is the joint-most successful trainer in the Tattersalls Stakes with six victories, most recently Veracious in 2019. The master of Freemason Lodge has two entries in 2021 – Group Two winner Queen Power and the unexposed Potapova.

Stoute is out on his own as the leading trainer in the Group Two Princess of Wales’s Tattersalls Stakes with nine wins. The mile and a half contest for three year olds and upwards takes place on Ladies Day (Thursday 8th July). He has one entry this time around in Highest Ground, a Group Two runner-up who looked on the way back when successful at Leicester last time out.

Also among the 30 entries are two horses who went close to victory at the Cazoo Derby Festival at Epsom Downs just under a fortnight ago – Coral Coronation Cup second Al Aasy (William Haggas) and Mojo Star (Richard Hannon), who only found Adayar too good in The Cazoo Derby.
