A total of 26 entries are revealed today for the Group Two Joel Stakes. The mile contest for three year olds and upwards takes place at Newmarket on Friday 24th September, day two of The Cambridgeshire Meeting.
Godolphin’s globetrotting Benbatl, a Group One winner in three different counties, captured the Joel Stakes in 2019 and is entered once again. The seven year old was third in the 2020 renewal and recently returned to action when the short-head runner-up in the Group Two Celebration Mile at Goodwood on 28th August. Benbatl’s trainer Saeed bin Suroor has also entered the progressive Real World, who followed up victory in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot with Listed success at Newbury and most recently was the impressive winner of the Group Three Strensall Stakes at York.
The Celebration Mile was won by Lavender’s Blue, providing her owner-breeder Benny Andersson of ABBA fame with his biggest success to date. The five year old mare is also entered band ran well at Newmarket earlier in the campaign when a close third to Lady Bowthorpe in the Group Two Betfair Dahlia Stakes.
