Almost 20 years ago, Glenn Roeder collapsed and almost died. As Manager, he had just watched his team, West Ham United win a crucial match. He was rushed to hospital where he was put into an induced coma. The news was bad. He had a brain tumour and surgery was the only chance of saving him.
Such was his strength that a couple of days later, he actually walked himself to the operating theatre for this critical surgery. Glenn fought this awful infliction for the subsequent 18 years with a calm bravery that few people possess.
At around 1:25pm on February 28th 2021 the final whistle blew for Glenn and he lost his toughest game of all, Life.
The sun was flooding into his bedroom. He was surrounded by his family who sat in disbelief as he slipped away. Almost immediately the decision was taken that The Roeder Family would do anything they could to avoid another family having to go through the pain of loosing a loved one.
And so, The Glenn Roeder Raceday on July 23rd 2022 was born and is in celebration his life and to raise funds to fight this dreadful disease. We, his family want to share this day with you and invite you to participate at whatever level you are comfortable with.
To many this is just another call to arms for vital funding.
To us The Glenn Roeder Raceday is Personal.
