SATURDAY AT THE CHRISTMAS MEETING

With Christmas Extravaganza themed family fun with a Santa's Grotto and superb racing action, this day has it all. Embrace and enjoy the Christmas buzz, with Grade 2 action on the track, providing those all-important Cheltenham Festival clues and an abundance of festive treats – it is the ultimate Christmas sporting day out.

With Grade 2 and 3 racing action, including some highly competitive Cheltenham Festival trials, including the JCB Triumph Hurdle trial and the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle trial, it is a key race meeting for Cheltenham Festival clues.

The Virgin Bet December Gold Cup went the way of trainer Richard Hobson and his charge Fugitif. The eight-year-old gelding was partnered by jockey Gavin Sheehan who, seemed to be riding every big race Saturday winner during the first half of the season. Gavin Sheehan got Fugitif up to win by a short head, providing both an exciting and nail-biting finish.

Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville took the Grade 2 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle with Shanagh Bob in the familiar colours of Mrs J Donnelly.

Trainer Jack Jones recorded his first training victory at the Home of Jump Racing in the JCB Triumph trial, with Tom Bellamy steering An Bradan Feasa to pass the winning post in front.

It was another good day for local trainers at Cheltenham, with Jonjo O’Neill, Sophie Leech and Nigel Twiston Davies having winners on the afternoon.
