Fahey targeting highlight of The November Meeting, the £160,000 BetVictor Gold Cup, with Peregrine Run

Press Release 28th October 2019 Cheltenham

The November Meeting at Cheltenham is now less than a month away, with the three-day spectacular running from Friday, 15 November through to Saturday, 17 November.

Entries for the highlight of The November Meeting, the £160,000 G3 BetVictor Gold Cup (2.25pm, Saturday, 16 November), close at noon tomorrow and will be revealed 24 hours later on Wednesday, 30 October.

One horse who will have an entry is Peregrine Run (Peter Fahey). The nine-year-old was kept busy in Ireland over the summer and recorded four consecutive successes over fences at Killarney, Ballinrobe, Punchestown and Wexford between May and July, followed by a success over hurdles at Cork. He also ran well when fourth back over fences in the Galway Plate on 31 July and when runner-up in the G2 PWC Champion Chase at Gowran Park on 5 October. He got back to winning ways last week when taking a hurdle contest at Thurles on 24 October.

Peregrine Run is also no stranger to success at The November Meeting, having landed the G2 Ballymore Novices' Hurdle in 2016.

County Kildare-based Fahey said: "Peregrine Run won nicely at Thurles the other day and we have been very pleased with him since the race.

"The plan now is to run in the BetVictor Gold Cup at Cheltenham in November.

"The ground is obviously important to him and we wouldn't want too much cut.

"He has been a brilliant horse to train and he has previously won at The November Meeting, so it would be great to back and win the feature race of the meeting.

"We haven't really made a plan for after Cheltenham because of the weather, so he could have a break until the spring, but we will get Cheltenham out of the way first.

"Hopefully, he can run a big race at Cheltenham next month."

Staged over two and a half miles on the Old Course at Cheltenham, the BetVictor Gold Cup has been one by Irish-trained runners on five occasions, most recently Tranquil Sea in 2009.

Peregrine Run is a 25/1 chance with BetVictor.
